Wally Jones is the head coach and co-owner of CrossFit Hillsdale.  Wally was first introduced to CrossFit in 2005, when Scott Hagnas subletted space at the Academy of Kung Fu to open CrossFit Portland. From there, a steady diet of squats, pull ups, dead lifts and sprinting has convinced him that CrossFit is not only an awesome conditioning program but the one that has successfully managed to hold his attention span for six years and counting.  He is a level 1 CrossFit coach, and CrossFit Olympic Lifting certified as well.

Spence Becker is a Cross-fit trainer, Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Therapist, Adventurer and all around cool woman.  Do not be fooled by her witty retorts, she is a very dedicated go-getter.  You will know Spence as passionate, resourceful and dedicated to helping people define and achieve their fitness goals.  Further, you will be motivated by her enthusiasm and knowledge.  In her spare time you might find her reading, cooking, hiking, bouldering, camping, enjoying live music or working on improving her Olympic style weightlifting skills and technique. Spence and her partner, Chris, both possess an awesome balance of zest for fun and life with an appreciation of health and fitness.  Spence is a certified level 1 CrossFit coach and attended the Mobility cert as well.

Jay ‘please call again’ Wilkins has been an avid Cross-fitter since his first WOD over 4 years ago.  He can rarely be found teaching a ‘regular’ class except when a substitute is needed at the last minute.  Instead, he tends to be found holding special Ninja classes early in the morning.  (If interested, ask your coach if you’re ready for a Ninja class!) Away from the box, Jay enjoys time with his wife, Vanessa, and their two daughters, Syd age 7 and Sky age 8. Both his old age, and the fact the ‘closed’ sign hangs in the door during the Ninja WODs, contributes to his coaching name ‘please call again’.

Chris Becker was quite skeptical of CrossFit when she first heard about it. After feeling completely defeated by a Chipper workout during the first week of training though, she realized that WODs might be a worthy pastime after all. Chris has a deep history of fitness programs, going way back to being the fastest tree climber in her childhood neighborhood and more recently including rock climbing, running, bicycling, swimming, and fencing. You can usually find Chris in the early morning classes, where there are always enough bars and bells for everyone!  Chris is a certified level 1 CrossFit coach and has a mobility cert as well.

Seth Burrell has a passion for helping others understand how CrossFit can help them improve their lives.  He has been a life-long athlete and played collegiate level baseball.  Seth is currently entering his last year at the National College of Natural Medicine where he is training to become a  naturopathic physician.  His training at NCNM involves functional movement assessment and physical medicine, which he uses as a foundation for assessing and correcting form at CrossFit Hillsdale.  He also has extensive training in nutrition and diet assessment based on the unique metabolic and genetic traits of each individual.  Feel free to ask Seth any questions about diet and nutrition.
